Debate: „Innovation. Is the idea the most important?”
What is innovation? Can we perceive Silesia as an innovative region? If not – what needs to change? Where to find money to test and implement an innovative solution? Do we have adequate facilities in Silesia to educate young and talented people? We could seek the answers to these and other questions during the debate: ‘Innovation. Is the idea the most important?’ which took place on June 7 at the Media Centre, headquarters of ‘Dziennik Zachodni’.
In specialists’ view
Organisers of the debate made sure that experts from various fields become participants in order to learn about the subject of innovation from different perspectives. The participants of the meeting were: Krzysztof Orlicz – a member of the management board of the eq system, dr hab. Barbara Piontek – Managing Director’s deputy, member of the board of the KSEZ, dr Martyna Dudzicz – specialist in market analysis at the Centre of Innovation and Technology Transfer at the Silesian Institute of Technology, Agnieszka Plusczok – project manager at SoftServe, Jacek Leszczuk – technical marketing engineer in Tekniska Polska, Jarosław Kacprzak – PR manager at Future Processing and Bartłomiej Glac – the co-founder of the Gruba IT foundation. Interesting conclusions could not be missed in such a good group.
The problem of innovation in Silesia
We value innovative ideas the most, as they are an integral part of our work. In eq system we focus on supporting innovative projects and activities. The debate in which Krzysztof Orlicz – a member of the management board of the eq system – took part, was a unique opportunity to exchange views on the innovation of our region.
– In my opinion, Silesia is not an innovative region, although it could be. It has the greatest potential of all regions in Poland. We have good communication, human potential and good geographical location. All this means that we could be the best region in Poland that could actually provide solutions all over the world – emphasised Krzysztof Orlicz.
A special attention was paid during the discussion to the need for communication between the world of science and business and their cooperation. It is worth noting that innovative projects in Silesia can be implemented only if they have full public support and understanding, and unfortunately this is often lacking. Silesia must become innovative and modern.
Support for the development of innovation
During the debate, representatives of the sector of enterprise, science and business environment institutions also raised issues related to proprietary projects and education of future leaders of innovative enterprises. Among others, the Innovator Club was mentioned, of which we are an Honorary Member, the Silesian University of Technology, WSB Academy (Higher Business School) or Katowice Special Economic Zone Inc., which take care for the development and education of our innovators.
As a company offering a top-class technological solutions, we mainly care about the development of current and future innovation creators. We want to support young people at every stage of their everyday work. However, sometimes there is a number of barriers that both we and other entrepreneurs face when wanting to implement new solutions. Therefore, the topic of ‘limits’ in the introduction of innovation has become another key issue during the discussion.
The Silesian Voivodeship has a great potential in introducing innovations at various levels. However, a number of difficulties that inhibit this process arise. These include communication problems, the labour market in both qualitative and quantitative terms, and a problem that affects scientists. They have innovative ideas, but they don’t know exactly how to implement them. They often lack a business perspective. Scientists should constantly cooperate with business partners – jointly implement projects that will result in innovative ideas or services. We are very pleased that we were able to take part in this debate and jointly consider the importance of these problems and work out the appropriate solutions.
